Council discusses what to throw $626,202 in stimulus funding at

Four infrastructure projects under consideration
didsbury-news

DIDSBURY - Town council has reviewed four infrastructure projects administration is recommending be considered to be funded through the new provincial municipal stimulus program.

The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

Funding allocated to the town under the program totals $626,202.

Qualifying projects must meet a number of stipulations, including that project construction must begin in 2020 or 2021, and the projects must not result in municipal tax increases.

The four projects identified in an administrative briefing note to council are:

• Eastside reservoir, which would see the construction of an additional water distribution reservoir in town. The grant funds would be allocated toward the project, reducing the borrowing requirement of the project, which would enhance water flow to the east side of Didsbury, providing additional fire coverage and allowing for future industrial growth.

• The Highway 582 and 23rd Street intersection improvement project would upgrade and optimize the intersection from growth opportunities in the northwest region of Didsbury.

• The road rehabilitation program would see a robust asphalt repair and rehabilitation undertaken throughout the town. If the full amount of funding were applied to this project approximately three times the length of 2020’s program would be completed.

• Outlying plan is a value-added recreation project that would attract families to the community, strengthen the employment force locally, which would, in turn, benefit business growth.

Council reviewed the proposed projects and instructed administration to come back with further details at an upcoming council meeting, said Hunter.
