DIDSBURY - Municipal council members from Didsbury, Carstairs, Mountain View County and Cremona will be attending a presentation from RCMP officials regarding the possible formation of an updated regional community policing advisory committee.

In a letter recently sent to neighbouring municipalities, Town of Didsbury Mayor Rhonda Hunter outlined the proposed meeting and plans for a possible updated committee.

Didsbury town council recently put the Didsbury Regional Community Policing Advisory Committee on pause.

“We believe it is in the best interest of Didsbury, together with the municipalities served by the Didsbury RCMP detachment, to research and explore the implementation of an updated and more effective policing advisory committee and framework that would also identify a stated purpose and terms of reference,” said Hunter.

The Town of Didsbury has invited councils to a presentation by RCMP K Division that will be specific to the formation of regional/municipal policy advisory committees, their creation, powers, membership and more, she said.

“We believe this will be a great starting point for us all in the restructuring of our policing advisory committee, and we hope you will agree with the value of participating in such a presentation,” she said.

“This presentation is currently being arranged, and our administrative team will, of course, be working to find a date that will work for our councils and administration.”

A date for council members and staff to meet with RCMP officials has not yet been confirmed.
