CREMONA - Mountain View County council has recommended that a $24,800 funding request for new playground equipment at Cremona School be considered by the Cremona Recreation Board.

The move came during a recent council meeting, held in person and online.

A portion of the school’s existing playground has been deemed no longer safe and will be removed at the end of the 2022-23 school year, council heard.

The Cremona School Enhancement Society, a registered non-profit, has been raising funds for activities and capital projects at the school.

“They are hoping to purchase new equipment to replace the portion of that that needs to be removed,” the county's chief administrative officer Jeff Holmes said in a briefing note to council.

“They are currently working on setting up an online auction with proceeds from the event going towards the playground. They are also hoping to secure additional in-kind donations to offset the current budget. Chinook’s Edge School Division will be dismantling and removing the existing playground but will not be contributing financially to the new equipment.”

Council passed a motion recommending that the Cremona Recreation Board consider funding the playground equipment request.
