Mountain View County controls administration of reserve fund

CREMONA – Mountain View County council has approved a $114,296 contribution from the Cremona Intermunicipal Collaboration Reserve Fund towards the water station pump upgrade project in the Village of Cremona.

The approval came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held in person and online. The county is the approving body for allocation of the funds from the reserve.

The $114,296 represents 86 per cent of the total cost of the project, which has been set at $132,903 excluding GST.

The percentage is equal to the county’s population vis-a-vis Cremona in the recreational district.

At the May 3 Intermunicipal Collaboration Committee (ICC) meeting, representatives from the Village of Cremona presented a verbal request to access funding from the reserve to fund the upgrade project.

Made up of county and village representatives, the ICC referred the funding request to Mountain View County, saying the project will benefit both county and village residents.

Specifically, the upgraded pump is used by fire departments to fill the tanks of fire trucks used in the district, and farmers and ranchers also use the station to load water for agriculture operations, council heard.

Deputy reeve Greg Harris, whose Division 2 includes the Cremona and Water Valley areas, said upgrading the pump station is a “benefit to the county and the village.”

Reeve Angela Aalbers said, “I think it (upgrade project) is a good use of the reserve funds.”

The county will forward the funds to Cremona upon receipt of verification of the project being complete, said county chief administrative officer Jeff Holmes.
