CREMONA – A large crowd of family members and friends recently turned out for the 2023 Cremona School graduation ceremony in the school gymnasium.
The Cap and Gown ceremony saw 22 graduates, including valedictorian Julie Daum, receive the congratulations of dignitaries, school officials, teachers and others.
“I understand that every class (professes) their uniqueness, but for us I truly believe it to be an indispensable part of who we are,” Daum said in her valedictory address. “We are a group of invariably different individuals, who all found the ability to interact with each other, to confide in one another, and to create lasting friendships and memories with each other.
“Seeing how this school and our experiences here have already shaped us into the smart, ambitious, creative people that we are, I do not know what could be a better start to the rest of our lives.”
She thanked parents, teachers, and the community-at-large for helping and supporting her classmates over the years.
Dignitaries at the one-hour ceremony included Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Nathan Cooper, Village of Cremona deputy mayor Joseph Canaday, Chinook’s Edge School Division’s Jason Drent, and Mountain View County deputy reeve Greg Harris.
Cremona School principal Joanna Harvey commended the members of Class of 2023 for their perseverance during several difficult years.
“As the young adults that we have come to know and you have grown to be, we do know that you have the personality and the skills to take hold of the many challenges you are bound to come across and learn from them,” said Harvey, who is retiring after this school year.
“We also know you have the ability to forge new paths around any roadblocks you may encounter. It is with a mixed emotions that we send you on your way into your new futures. We send you on your way and wish you well.”
MLA Cooper said, “I know the hard work an dedication that you, the grad class of 2023 displayed in order to reach this milestone will serve you well in your future endeavours."
