Carstairs peace officers responded to 348 bylaw incidents

CARSTAIRS - The three full-time and one part-time peace officers deployed in Carstairs responded to hundreds of calls for service in 2022, according to information presented at the March 27 council meeting.

The 2022 annual peace officer report highlighted duties performed, activity statistics and complaint volumes.

“We have deployed our officers in varying roles this year (2022) to assist in keeping our community safe,” said Rob Mckay, director of emergency services with the Town of Carstairs.

“We appreciate having the peace officer program in our community. The public find them approachable and easily accessible for information. We intend on keeping the program in Carstairs.”

Peace officers responded to many calls for service, including 348 bylaw incidents, 263 CPO (community peace officer) citations such as speeding tickets and other driving infractions, 194 CPO warnings, 23 school walks, 12 assistance to other community, and four bike patrols.

Peace officer activities in 2022 included crossing guard coordination and school patrols during students’ commute to and from school, work with RCMP enhanced member in joint patrols, Remembrance Day service, working long weekends and the high school graduation weekend.

Officers also assisted Carstairs Fire Department with traffic control at emergency scenes, bylaw reviews, emergency management training, bike safety blitz for helmets and intersection crossing, and school visits.

Officer duties included community interaction with schools, seniors and other community presentations, bylaw response, traffic duties, and community safety inspections.

Council received the annual report as information.
