RCMP identify anti-2SLGBTQ+ material distributors

Still want info on Pride crosswalk burnout

ST. ALBERT - St. Albert police say they now know who scattered anti-2SLGBTQ+ posters and bookmarks around two school playgrounds last month.

St. Albert parents and students found laminated posters and bookmarks with anti-2SLGBTQ+ messages scattered throughout the Joseph M. Demko playground in Jensen Lakes on June 26, St. Albert Public officials said. Similar material was reported at the Muriel Martin playground in Deer Ridge the next day.

The St. Albert RCMP launched an investigation. On July 6, police released photos taken by security cameras of a man and a woman placing anti-2SLGBTQ+ material in the two playgrounds on June 25 at about 8:20 p.m. (at Joseph M. Demko) and 8:35 p.m. (at Muriel Martin). The man and woman were seen leaving Demko in a red Nissan Juke.

On July 11, RCMP announced that they had identified the man and the woman.

St. Albert RCMP Cst. MJ Burroughs said police were not releasing the names of these people at this time, and had yet to make any arrests.

“We know who they are and where they live,” she said, and police were continuing their investigations.

Burroughs said police were still seeking information on the identity of the driver and passenger of a red Ford F350 pickup truck who were caught on camera doing a burnout on the Pride crosswalk in front of St. Albert Place on June 26. The passenger was described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s with short hair.

Burroughs asked anyone with information on the people in the Ford truck to call St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
