OLDS — The Alberta Health Services (AHS) boil water advisory in Olds has been extended to Wednesday.

In a news release issued at 4:35, the town said AHS needs that time to test water samples and confirm there is no bacteria from the incident that spurred the advisory, a power outage Friday night at the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission's water treatment plant near Innisfail.

That event caused sludge and sediment to travel down the main line into Olds.

The first samples were submitted Sunday Oct. 29 and take approximately 30 hours to process. The town says the next samples will be submitted Tuesday morning, meaning that Wednesday is the earliest possible notification date.

Flushing of the south reservoir will continue Monday and Tuesday at the direction of Alberta Environment and Parks. As a result, residents will continue to experience temporary reductions in water pressure.

“Our local water tests results are promising, however, in situations where discoloration and sediment occur, AHS keeps safety as a top priority and exercises an abundance of caution,” the news release said.

“The town respects their authority and continues to work with AHS and follow their advice.”

“The Town of Olds recognizes the inconvenience of this situation for businesses and residents in our community and we thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we work to resolve to get our systems back on track, the release added.

Residents are urged to follow www.olds.ca/alerts for ongoing updates and information on common questions.
