ST. ALBERT - St. Albert is now serving as the designated reception centre in Alberta for thousands of Northwest Territories evacuees who are fleeing the fires ravaging their communities

On Aug. 15 the territory government announced evacuees would be moved to St. Albert while the battles burn in the north.

All evacuees who are in Grande Prairie or en route by vehicle to Grande Prairie will be moved to the St. Albert reception centre at Servus Place.

Any evacuees who were flown to Fort McMurray are good to stay in Fort McMurray and do not need to relocate to St. Albert if you are currently in Fort McMurray.

Any southbound vehicle heading to Grande Prairie that has not yet arrived in Grande Prairie are asked to reroute to St. Albert now.

Those who do not have a vehicle and need transportation can go to the reception centre in Grande Prarie for busing.
