Importing a prohibited weapon has resulted in charges being laid against a High River man.

High River RCMP said an investigation began on Nov. 9 after an individual allegedly imported a prohibited conducted energy weapon into the country.

The investigation resulted in a search warrant being carried out a residence in High River on Nov. 24, which led to the arrest of a male and the seizure of a conducted energy weapon.

John Dorscheid, 56, of High River, was charged with importing a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon and failure to comply with a probation order.

Dorscheid was taken before a justice of the peace and released for Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on Dec. 15.

RCMP said the Canada Border Services Agency, Canada Post and various RCMP units assisted in the investigation.
