SUNDRE — The recent snowfall did not facilitate the effort to finish off repairing sections of the Highway 27-Main Avenue corridor in Sundre, where portions of drastically deteriorated and pothole-scarred asphalt was recently cut out from each downtown intersection west of the traffic lights.

But despite the less-than-ideal conditions, a construction crew nevertheless managed to subsequently repave the asphalt, restoring a regular flow of traffic.

A timeline for the complete overhaul of the road’s surface, including a permanent design of concrete roundabouts, remains a distant blip on Alberta Transportation’s project radar, with funds for the project not yet allocated in its multi-year plan.

“Other improvements to Highway 27 are considered future work at this time — they are not on the current provincial construction program,” Alberta Transportation spokesperson Anna Neale told The Albertan in August.
