Five new directors as two retire from chamber

No elections will be held after Wednesday's Annual General Meeting of the Olds Chamber of Commerce.

Seven directors were acclimated after three motions for nomination were bypassed.

The group includes five new directors, and returning directors Lynn McMaster-Haw and Paul Hildebrand, who are returning for their second three-year term.

The new board members are Glenn Christiansen (Widmer Realty Ltd.), Melanie Hepp (CAB-K Broadcasting, CKFM Olds), Paul Hildebrand (Hildebrand Motors Ltd.), Carmel C. Maloney (The Blooming Lodge), Lynn McMaster-Haw (LMH Bookkeeping Services), Jared Reist (Mountain View Benefits), and Ken Risi (director of development, Olds College).

The chamber unanimously accepted treasurer Lynn McMaster Haw's motion for members' acceptance of the 2010 fiscal year financial statements as presented.

The chamber also thanked its retiring directors, Debbie Packer (BMO Nesbitt Burns) and Jordan Cleland (Olds College).

McMaster-Haw thanks Packer for her valuable input countless volunteer hours she spent serving on the board of directors from Jan. 2005 to March 2011.

During her time with the chamber, Debbie served as treasurer, president, and vice-president.

“Debbie always made time to support the many meetings and events of the chamber, and missed very few meetings,” said McMaster-Haw.

Jordan Cleland served on the board from Sept. 2007 – March 2011, in which time he contributed insight to discussions, and moderated the candidates forum (which introduces new councillors to the community) in Oct. 2010.

Chamber president Curtis Setso announced several events for the month, including Lunch and Learn, where local business owners get together to discuss business strategies over lunch.

An online business and videoconferencing showcase for local businesses will be held Friday, March 18 and 31 at the Olds Library from 12-1 p.m., and an employee strategy workshop will be held Tuesday, March 22 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Olds Ramada.

President Setso emphasized how over the past 15 years many new projects and programs have been introduced for the benefit of the members and business community, however, there has not yet been increase in yearly membership fees.

The annual Staff Employee Appreciation Luncheon (SEAL) will be held Wednesday April 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Olds Alumni Centre.
