SUNDRE — A woman was transported from Sundre by air ambulance to a Calgary hospital late on the afternoon of Aug. 23.
STARS was dispatched at 4:13 p.m. to the Red Deer River near northeast Sundre following reports of a woman being injured by a tree while on a boat, a spokesperson said by email in response to questions.
“We rendezvoused with EMS at Sundre hospital and transported a female patient in her mid-30s to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary,” said the STARS spokesperson, who could not confirm the patient’s condition.
Two members of the Sundre Fire Department also responded to the scene to provide medical assistance.
“An individual was in medical distress on the shore of the Red Deer River,” said a spokesperson with the fire department, adding the swift water rescue unit was not deployed.
“We do have qualified people in the event of a river rescue though.”
Earlier this summer, Coun. Cheri Funke raised concerns on behalf of a constituent that the past season’s extensive erosion had resulted in a larger than average number of felled trees obstructing the river.
