Sundre’s golden arches officially unveiled

Low-key ribbon-cutting ceremony held amid ongoing pandemic

SUNDRE — The COVID-19 pandemic might have caused some delays, but the global health crisis wasn’t enough to stop the new McDonald’s franchise from opening.

Amid Alberta’s ongoing third wave that prompted the provincial government to tighten up restrictions, a low-key ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on the morning of Friday, May 14.

Owner Usman Jutt was among the youngest franchisees in Canada when he opened his first restaurant, with Sundre’s marking his 20th location, reads background information provided to The Albertan.

“Today, he owns and operates McDonald’s restaurants in Olds, Innisfail, Balzac, Airdrie, Strathmore and Calgary.”

In celebration of the latest Sundre location’s grand opening, the restaurant’s crew hosted events over the weekend, including family-friendly activities for guests.

Although dine-in service is of course for the time being unavailable, the drive-through is open and customers can also walk in to pick up take-out orders.
