SUNDRE - Sundre and surrounding area residents have until later this month to complete a survey seeking input on what priorities people think police should be focusing on.

“We want to consult with the community,” said Sgt. Jody Achtymichuk, the local RCMP detachment’s commander.

“We want to get everybody’s feedback, just in case somebody has an idea on what policing priorities should be.”

To that end, the sergeant collaborated with the municipality, which created the three-question survey that is now available online by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/r/LK7F3J2. The questionnaire — which asks what local policing priorities should be focused on; if the detachment’s officers are approachable and accessible; as well as whether people feel police are providing a service that meets the community’s needs — will remain live until March 20.

And although dates have not yet been determined, the community consultation on police priorities will also include meetings with the public.

“We’re going to participate in town hall meetings, one in the spring, one in the fall,” said Achtymichuk, adding those will be announced once scheduled.

“We’re going to take everybody’s feedback into consideration,” he said, adding the process will help police to, “make a final decision on priorities for 2020-21 fiscal year.”
