SUNDRE - Council was asked to decide where to allocate a $1,250 donation received as part of an annual Gas Alberta Inc. initiative.

Gas Alberta Inc. is the supplier of natural gas for shareholders of the Federation of Alberta Natural Gas Co-ops that is responsible for the purchase and market analyzing procurement of gas supply from producers. The municipality is a member of the co-op.

Every year, the staff of Gas Alberta Inc., Gas Alberta Energy, as well as the board of directors donate to the Gas Alberta Gives Back program. The funds are matched by Gas Alberta Inc. as well as Gas Alberta Energy, and the 2020 total raised amounting to $22,500 is to be distributed to 18 different utilities in $1,250 allotments.

Linda Nelson, chief administrative, said during the Dec. 7 meeting the decision was at council’s discretion.

Coun. Rob Wolfe motioned to support the Plus 1 Food Hamper program, which is operated out of McDougal Chapel.

Speaking in support, Coun. Richard Warnock said, “there are some people in our community that could use the help, and I think that’s a worthwhile cause.”

Without further discussion, mayor Terry Leslie called for a vote and Wolfe’s motion carried unopposed.
