Sundre council covers GNP's rental for Magic of Christmas

sundre-news

SUNDRE- Chief administrative officer Linda Nelson presented a request to council from the Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society, which was seeking a waiver on the rental fee for the Sundre Community Centre’s gym to host the Magic of Christmas Sale, including setup and takedown.

“The cost for this is $338.21,” said Nelson, adding council still has $1,750 left in its discretionary budget.

“We have advised Greenwood Neighbourhood Place that in the future, they need to follow our grant application process,” she said.

However, in this instance, “we felt that because this is for the Magic of Christmas for Sundre Santas, that council might want to consider the request, so we brought it forward.”

Mayor Terry Leslie sought a motion to approve the rental fee waiver for Dec. 13-15, which was made by Coun. Rob Wolfe.

As a point of clarification, Coun. Todd Dalke said the expense is being covered by council’s discretionary fund, not technically waived.

“You’re absolutely right,” said Nelson, adding the motion amounts to a waiver for GNP.

The mayor asked for Wolfe’s motion to be amended to reflect that point of clarification, and council carried it unanimously.
