The value of development permits in Sundre in 2013 was less than what it was in 2012, but the number of subdivisions doubled.

ìWe did less permits. I think because we did more subdivisions this year. So, the land needs to be subdivided before development can happen,î said Erin O'Neill, manager of planning and development for the Town of Sundre.

ìWe doubled our number of subdivisions in 2013 over 2012.î

In 2013, there were 65 development permits issued, reaching an estimated construction value of $6,834,515. This includes all residential, commercial and industrial permits, including home-based businesses and the Tim Hortons. The largest dollar value permit issued in 2013 was for UFA (United Farmers of Alberta), she said.

In 2012, there were 84 permits issued and the value was $10,134,600. The majority of the value came from an apartment building and Integra Tire, she said.

ìI think 2014 is going to be good, given that the southwest industrial subdivision came on, and we had a lot of interesting commercial and industrial last year,î she said.

ìI think 2014 will be busy in that side of things. I'm not sure it will be so busy in new house construction.î

Town officials are working on updating the Land Use Bylaw and there will be public engagement sessions held over the next six to eight months, she added.
