Outdoor exercise easily enables physical distancing

More than a dozen people join REFIT Sundre fitness group
SUNDRE — With summer almost upon us and the COVID-19 restrictions slowly but surely easing as the provincial government continues to relaunch the economy, many people are looking for opportunities to safely enjoy some exercise with others.

REFIT Sundre was the first fitness group in town to offer physically distanced outdoor classes at the Sundre Rodeo Grounds. Classes started last week, with a kick off enthusiastically attended by more than a dozen people held on the sunny evening of Wednesday, June 10.

Instructor Naomi Holland said classes are free for Alberta Health Care staff throughout the month of June.

The local REFIT group launched in 2015, and hosts three outdoor classes every week that are instructed by Holland alongside Sandra Nielsen.

“We believe movement is essential for mental and physical wellbeing,” said Holland.

“We are so concerned with the effects of COVID on our activity level and eating habits. We encourage anyone to come try REFIT regardless of shape, age, size or fitness ability. The emphasis is participation over perfection,” she said.
