Sundre RCMP is asking for anyone with any information regarding an ongoing mischief or theft of mail in the area to step forward.

An incident where locks were cut off mailboxes at a rural delivery box, located down Coal Camp Road, on Highway 584, Site 9, RR2 Sundre, occurred sometime in the early hours of Dec. 11.

ìThey (the locks) were cut off and they were left set on top of the mailbox unit and it's basically just vandalism,î said Sundre RCMP Constable Troy Hopkins.

ìThey did rummage through but nobody reported ≠anything that was stolen.î

Hopkins said the locks were cut off the mailboxes using ìa large type of bolt cutterî. RCMP received two calls from witnesses on Dec. 11 reporting the damage, he said.

ìThere has been a few thefts of mailboxes or mischief to mailboxes over the last year,î said Corporal Ryan

Hodge.

ìTheft of mail is a very serious criminal offence for obvious reasons: it affects the mail system and how our day-to-day lives and businesses are run,î he added.

These thefts appear to be occurring within the night when no one else is around, said Hodge. He said there isn't a lot of action that people can take to prevent this kind of incident but encourages people to try and limit the possible loss.

ìPick up your mail on a regular basis so if it does ≠happen then you're not losing a large amount of mail,î he said.

Anyone who has witnessed suspicious doings in the area or has information regarding the incident is asked to call Sundre RCMP at 403-638-3675 or Crime Stoppers at

1-800-222-8477.
