SUNDRE - A public hearing date for a proposal to convert an existing non-confirming residence into a two-storey mixed use development containing residential as well as commercial units has been set for the new year.

“This is an amendment to the land use bylaw in the flood plain industrial district. This is just first reading,” said Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, during the a December meeting.

The planning and development department has received an application to amend the bylaw for the parcel, located at 136, 5th Street SE, with a request to rezone the land to Highway Commercial District from Flood Plain Industrial.

“The applicant will utilize the lower level commercial space for health services, a permitted use in the Highway Commercial District,” reads a portion of the background given to council.

Coun. Richard Warnock’s motion to give first reading carried unopposed, and a follow up motion by Coun. Charlene Preston to set the public hearing date for Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. also passed unanimously.
