Mennear elected new chamber president

Marty Mennear was elected the new president of the Sundre & District Chamber of Commerce during the organization's annual general meeting last Tuesday, March 12.

Marty Mennear was elected the new president of the Sundre & District Chamber of Commerce during the organization's annual general meeting last Tuesday, March 12.

Mennear, of Sundre Sobeys has been involved with the chamber for about 15 years and said gaining the top posting at the chamber was unexpected.

ìIt was unexpected that I was going to be in this position but I look forward to leading and helping businesses however I can,î he said.

Mennear said he hopes to keep the momentum of the organization going from the height the former executive brought the chamber to.

ìSherry (Tytkanych) and the rest have done a super job with elevating the chamber. I hope we can continue that,î he said.

Tytkanych did not stand for re-election this time, having already served several years as president.

She will continue on with the chamber though, now in the capacity of member at large, along with Greg Campkin (Sunset Guiding & Outfitting), Jim Eklund (Bargain Browzer), Tracy McGinnes (Tier One Travel), Wendy Morton (Down My County Path) and Dennis Overguard (rancher and Rural Route Tours).

Rounding out the new executive is vice-president Heidi Overguard-Steuer from Heidi Overguard Photography and Move Yourself Dance Studio and treasurer Monica St. Dennis from ATB Financial. The secretary position remains vacant.

Chamber office manager Gord Moore said Tytkanych received a standing ovation after the elections were done.

Mennear invites all non-chamber businesses in the Sundre area to join and enjoy the benefits of being a member of the organization.

ìWe're a voice for business.î
