A new interim chief administrative officer has taken the helm of the Town of Sundre effective last Monday.

Ryan Leuzinger has been contracted until the end of December.

"It's a contract until the end of the year but I've got ambition of full-time permanent," said Leuzinger.

He takes over from interim CAO Wanda Watson-Neufeld who assumed the position when former longtime CAO Nita Bartholow vacated the position last year.

The CAO's responsibility, says Leuzinger, is to carry out council's wishes and mission.

"And really, I'm always here to listen and help," he said.

Most recently from the Lethbridge area, Leuzinger said there were many reasons why he chose the Sundre job.

"It's a beautiful area, centrally located, lots of potential, and great staff," he said.

Born in Spruce Grove, the 28-year-old attained a bachelor of arts, majoring in political science.

He began his municipal work as an intern in the Raymond and Stirling areas.

Being the interim CAO of Sundre will bring opportunities as well as challenges, he said.

The municipality currently has several large projects on the go including extending water and sewer services to the east side of the town for the first time.

He says his employment history in sewer and water construction may be of benefit to him in his new job.

The avid traveller, who has been to at least 10 countries, says he's looking forward to getting to know Sundre better.
