In a period of a weak and unstable upturn we approach an Alberta election that takes the Tory Party further into uncharted waters. The Tories achieved their ascendancy in a prolonged period of boom that has gone for good.

In a sure sign that the provincial election is right around the corner, the Redford government has announced plans to spend more than $16 billion of taxpayers' money on infrastructure projects over the next three years.

As mayor for the Town of Innisfail, I felt it was important to take some time to address the residents of our fine community and to try to bring everyone up to date on recent events and projects that have been taking place.

The letters on this page fairly reflect the anger and frustration that was so evident last week after the Town of Olds was buried under a March snowstorm. And stayed buried for a period of time that some felt was inexcusably long.

First, I want to compliment the editorial staff and management of the Gazette publication.

The Redford government's decision not to make the investigation of alleged physician intimidation a major part an upcoming health system inquiry may end up causing the Tories no end of trouble in the months ahead.
