Letter: Time to stand up for your rights

Unfortunately, many in Canada do not seem to value our freedoms and rights
opinion

I am a proud Canadian. My father was a 24-year veteran Canadian Armed Forces infantryman who saw combat during peacekeeping duty. My mother is a first generation immigrant.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to live and/or work in six provinces of this once great country of Canada. I have lived on dairy farms in Quebec and Ontario. I have lived on a beef farm in Alberta. I have lived or worked in small towns in Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. I have lived in cities and in the country.

I know firsthand that Canadians are more alike than they are different. We all have the same wants and needs. We desire the best for our children. We want to keep our families safe. We want the ability to do meaningful, honest work for our pay. We do not want a free ride.

It doesn’t matter where we come from or how long we have been here. It doesn’t matter who you love or how you want to live your life.

You are free to be what you want to be so long as you respect our Constitution and do not infringe on any other citizen’s Charter Rights.

Unfortunately, many in Canada do not seem to value our freedoms and rights. They willingly allow their current governments to trample upon their inherent rights without putting up any resistance. I find it appalling that most Canadians support the idea of vaccine passports and mandatory vaccination.

Even if these new experimental drugs ensured that you could not contract or spread COVID-19, it does not change the fact that any form of coercion, mandate, segregation or discrimination regarding a citizen's medical condition or status is absolutely illegal and contravenes many of our Constitutional rights as a Canadian.

I implore all Canadians to write and/or call your government representatives and demand that any type of vaccine passport program be rescinded immediately.

I urge any citizen who is denied access to a business or has a service withheld due to their vaccine status or any other medical status to contact the Canadian Human Rights Commission and file an official complaint of medical and or genetic discrimination.

You will be supplied with a file number and an investigation will be opened against the offending business.

It does not matter if these so-called vaccines work or not. It doesn’t matter if you think taking the vaccines is a civic duty or not. The fact remains that we live in a free society and that you have the right to choose what medical procedures or interventions are performed on or to your body free from coercion, segregation or discrimination.

This right is enshrined in our Constitution and in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. If you allow these rights to be stripped away “for the greater good” it will not be long before all your rights are gone.

This may all sound like a bit of an exaggeration, but it is happening before your eyes. Now is the time to stand up for your rights. Make sure that whatever political party you are supporting, they support freedom, the Constitution of Canada and our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. You will find that many do not.

The time is now Canada. It is up to you to save what is left of this once great nation that many past citizens laid down their lives for.

Scott Morrison,
