Letter: Time to move on for now

opinion

Seen from here, it seems the physicians at the Moose and Squirrel Medical Clinic in Sundre are playing fast and loose with the Hippocratic Oath and the concept of do no harm.

Granted, they have valid concerns. But the midst of a world-wide pandemic is not the time to apply the screws and they are members of a professional organization which has responsibility for any action, such as withdrawing services.

In other words, we have a bunch of rogue docs on the loose.

It’s easy to say they will no longer be performing routine services. But I note there are two clinics in Sundre and others will have to step in to fill the void. You can’t dilute anything and expect it to be the same, particularly when a COVID-19 disaster may present at any time locally.

While we’re on the subject, how can Sundre support two clinics? There would appear to be multiple efficiencies combining them and why is only one clinic doing this?

Routine? Having a baby is a straight forward procedure. Thousands of women do it every day, many of them unassisted, when all goes well.

Yes, yes, I know we men can never understand. But as any farmer or rancher knows, when things go wrong, they can go in a bad way very quickly and immediate expert care is what it’s going to take to save the day for mother and child.

It’s irresponsible to shirk that duty.

There is a maxim in warfare: never fight a two front war if you can avoid it. Hitler believed he could and we all know how that turned out.

It’s time to put disagreements behind us and deal with the major enemy; the minor one can be dealt with afterwards. Especially, in view of the fact that the Alberta Medical Association has taken action and launched a law suit.

Time to move on for now and do what we must.

Hans Ullmann,

Mountain View County
