Letter: Say one thing, but do another

Is “playing politics” more important than fighting a pandemic?
opinion

Premier Kenney, you seem to have forgotten that you requested federal assistance in the first place concerning the blockade at Coutts, then this past week you claim the federal government over-stepped its responsibilities by passing the Emergencies Act.

You seem to have also forgotten that several members of your party were instrumental in supporting the illegal truckers’ convoy; several UCP members took part in social functions such as dances while other venues were shut down due to COVID-19 restrictions. Are some Albertans more “entitled” than others?

Your party, it seems, has followed your lead. Say one thing, but do another. Remember your own little party atop the legislative building while telling us to obey the health regulations. You also had members of your party go on vacations outside of Canada while the rest of us were told to stay home.

What happened to conservative values of following the “rules of law” and supporting “law and order?" Or are you so hypocritical that rules and laws are for other folks?

It's not surprising, in my opinion, that two key organizers of the illegal truckers' convoy came from Alberta, and it's not surprising that you, the Alberta government, didn’t “crack down” on individuals who broke the law.

Is it OK for Albertans to travel to Ottawa and to take part in an illegal occupation of our nation's capitol? Is it OK for Albertans to shut down the border at Coutts, costing Albertans and Americans millions in lost revenues?

Is it OK for Albertans to be funded by the same folks who funded the Jan. 6, 2020 insurrection in Washington, DC? Is it OK for members of our government to be “hobnobbing” with pro-Nazis and pro-KKK sympathizers?

Bottom line, Mr. Kenny: Is “playing politics” more important than fighting a pandemic? Is it more important that governing this province by “the rule of law” and by maintaining “law and order?"

George Thatcher,

Trochu
