Re: “Innisfail orders mandatory mask wearing at town hall”, by Johnnie Bachusky, Nov. 24 on The Albertan's website MountainViewToday.ca.

“My argument is freedom of choice. I don't believe in mandatory anything,” Innisfail Coun. Glen Carritt was quoted as saying.

First and foremost how can a man who claims to believe in the will of the people not believe in laws? The very laws that protect the will and lives of people and mandates that allow us to live the lives that we live safely. Should we all not have to stop at red lights?

Obligations that require our elected officials, appointed officials and citizens in general to be civil and caring of our fellow humans regardless of gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. How can you, Glen Carritt, feel that you are properly serving the residents of this town, this province and by extension this country if you, Glen Carritt, don't believe in following mandatory rules.

Councillor Carritt during the last municipal election I voted for you believing you had the common sense that would help our town, but I've since seen that your vision is for yourself

Your three biggest concerns fiscally are oil and gas, oil and gas, oil and gas because it serves your business likely because it serves your business. What about every other business in this country?

Your support of antagonists through your actions at the anti-racism rally in town this past spring hurt many people in town and scarred the town.

I wonder if you are for conversion therapy and against homosexuality and general equality? Your conspicuous absence from the Welcoming and Inclusive Community Committee seminars spoke volumes.

Thank you for letting us know well in advance that you wish to be mayor of Innisfail. I will reserve my vote for a mayor that is here for ‘all of us’.

Robert McNaught,

Innisfail
