Letter: Doctor situation in Olds has deteriorated significantly

AHS says Olds' doctor situation is “better than other communities"
opinion

Re: Olds has enough doctors for its population, council told in June 2022

I would like to point out that my wife and I, both seniors, have been on the wait lists for the two clinics in Olds for over a year now.

I had occasion to consult with a new-to-me doctor at the Wild Rose Clinic (recently), and when checking our wait list status, was shown a huge mound of paperwork and folders and was told that there had been no change in a year.

Is this really a “good doctors-to-patient ratio” per the Alberta Health Services (AHS) statement?

I am aware of the new federal and provincial funding, and the fact that increased staffing requires some lead time for education and training.

But it appears to me that the situation has deteriorated significantly when Olds council is being told by AHS officials that the current situation is “better than other communities.”

How bad is it in those other communities?

Olds
