Letter: Butt-kissing mission is at expense of climate change prevention

opinion

I believe climate change has arrived. There are just too many extreme weather incidents such as wildfires, severe floods, droughts, unprecedented violent hurricanes, etc. going on all over the world.

We are far too late to stop this phenomenon. We can't wish it away and we cannot tax it away.

It is absolutely ludicrous to think that a country the size of Canada with a population of 37 million is going to have any effect on climate change by taxing its citizens on hydrocarbons that are essential to our well-being because we are a large country that is prone to have cold temperatures.

The largest polluters, China population 1.5 billion, India 1.3 billion and the U.S. 328 million, are doing absolutely nothing to mitigate climate change. I believe they are all increasing their CO2 production.

So it appears to me that Prime Minister Trudeau is on a butt-kissing mission to secure himself a seat on the UN council at the expense of the people who want to do good things to prevent climate change. I say to these people, do not worry, Canada is doing lots to mitigate climate change. We are a country that is 10 million square kilometres in size and a large portion of it is a carbon sink. Our forests and farmlands will use up thousands of tons of CO2.
