Health foundation clarifies facts

The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation applauds the generous support the Red Deer Express has contributed towards its fundraisers, the Love of Children Golf Classic, the Hospitals Lottery, the Cattle Round-Up, and the Festival of Trees.

The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation applauds the generous support the Red Deer Express has contributed towards its fundraisers, the Love of Children Golf Classic, the Hospitals Lottery, the Cattle Round-Up, and the Festival of Trees.

As the only media sponsor for the recent Love of Children Golf Classic (held June 13 and 14 at Red Deer Golf & Country Club), the Express provided excellent photography services and an impressive centre spread display.

However, the follow-up article titled "Annual golf classic has successful run" in the July 28 edition of the Express contained errors which should be noted, and corrected, as this article has created some confusion in the community.

* The fifth annual Love of Children Golf Classic is organized by the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation and a volunteer committee. The Kinsmen Club of Red Deer and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation were both presenting sponsors based on their significant donations to the event ($340,000 from Kinsmen and $140,000 from Oilers).

* Jacqueline Brooks is in fact the Executive Director of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, and not the Executive Director of the committee, as the article states.

* The Love of Children Volunteer Committee is chaired by Dr. Brian Isaac and Joan Donald Junior.

* As there was no mention of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation in the article, it needs to be confirmed that all funds raised are done so for the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, and it is the foundation who works directly with the hospital to ensure the funds are distributed to the pediatric ward.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to clarify these details and oversights.

Jacqueline Brooks

Executive Director, Red Deer Regional Health Foundation
