BOWDEN – Bowden town council has agreed to sell its 2012 International Refuse Compactor (garbage truck) for $105,000, well below the $125,000 asking price.

The Ramada Inn in Olds has received a Best of the Best award, says Erin Wallace, the hotel's general manager. Wallace made that announcement last week, saying she learned the news during a Canalta Hotels conference.

One of the people who came to Olds last week to protest alleged organ removal from Falun Gong practitioners in China says she was arrested four times and was tortured in labour camps.

Holy Trinity Catholic School was filled with baton twirlers and instructors this past Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1 and 2. They were there for the Alberta Baton Twirling Association's (ABTA) fall training camp.

About 300 people attended the Olds Institute (OI) 15th anniversary community block party at Centennial Park on Sept. 24. Activities included a pig roast as well as the cutting and serving of birthday cake and lots of games.

Kudos to Olds town council, the Olds Institute and others for working on the creation of Destination Olds – a strategy to develop tourism in the community.

More than 250 students of First Nations, Métis and Inuit heritage from across the division will gather in Olds on Oct. 5, for a day of learning, networking and celebrating their cultures.

A St. Stephen's Catholic Church committee is spearheading a fundraising drive to bring a Syrian refugee family to Olds. Committee member John Palardy says the goal is to raise $35,000. So far, they've raised about $20,000.

The Hepps from CAB-K Broadcasting remembered their longtime colleague and friend Brian Stephenson as a man wholly devoted to his radio profession, after he passed away on Sept. 13 following a battle with cancer that dated back to 2014.
