OLDS – Four people have been arrested and charged after police executed a search warrant at an Olds residence on Feb. 13.

During the raid police seized firearms, including a loaded .22 calibre rifle, a large amount of copper wire, a wire stripping machine, brass knuckles and ammunition, said Olds RCMP Const. Morley Statchuk.

“We believe the copper wire is from local oilfield sites,” said Statchuk.

Police also seized more than 20 grams of what is believed to be methamphetamine, as well as substances believed to be psilocybin mushrooms, heroin and oxycodone, he said.

All four suspects were arrested at the scene without incident, he said.

Charles Benson Schmidt, 45, of Olds faces 17 charges, including possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of careless use of a firearm, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon.

He has been released on $2,000 bail and is scheduled to be in Didsbury provincial court on Feb. 24.

Cory Ryan Davis, 43, of Olds faces three charges: possession of stolen property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000, and fail to comply with a release order.

He has been released on $1,500 bail and scheduled to be in Didsbury court Feb. 24.

Sheri-Lynn Kathleen Koch, 39, of Olds, faces charges of possession of stolen property obtained by crime less than $5,000 and possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000. She has been released pending a March 23 appearance in Didsbury court.

Wilson Gary Woodland, 52, of Calgary faces charges of possession of stolen property obtained by crime less than $5,000 and possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000. He has also been released pending a March 23 appearance in Didsbury court.

In an interview on Feb. 20, Schmidt said police came to the residence at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 13 and arrested all four accused.

The police then returned to the residence at 6 p.m. to execute the search warrant, he said.

Schmidt says he is a renter at the residence, which is located on the west side of Olds, and the other three accused were visiting at the time of the arrests.

The police investigation is continuing and officers are asking for anyone with additional information to contact Olds RCMP at (403) 556-3324 or Crime Stoppers.
