OLDS - A vehicle stolen from Red Deer yesterday was found in Olds with a suspect who seemed to be sleeping  inside.

On Dec. 9 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Olds RCMP say they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a local business.

“The complainant told police that a Dodge Ram truck had been parked there for several hours and the driver appeared to be sleeping,” states a press release issued today by Olds RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim MacDonald.

Officers determined the vehicle had been stolen from Red Deer earlier that morning, the release states.  Police said the male driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and he was arrested without incident.

It was also determined that the driver was wanted on an arrest warrant for outstanding charges for several other property-related offences in southern Alberta, police said.

When searched, police said he was found to be in possession of weapons and what is suspected to be methamphetamine.

A search of the vehicle also revealed various other items of stolen property, including gas cards, registration documents and cheques, police reported.

Steven Andrew Shier, 39, has been charged with nine new offences including several counts of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and breach of recognizance. The Calgarian has been remanded in custody to appear in Calgary provincial court on Dec. 13.
