OLDS – Two advanced polls held over the weekend as part of the Olds council byelection were well attended.

The election is being held to replace councillor Wade Bearchell. Seventy-one residents voted on Friday and 69 on Saturday, says returning officer Marcie McKinnon.

Both the Jan. 3 and Jan. 4 advanced polls were held at the Town of Olds municipal office.

Institutional advanced polls will be held at local seniors' facilities and the Olds Hospital and Care Centre prior to the Jan. 20 vote. Those polls are for facility residents, not members of the general public, she said.

An all-candidates forum is scheduled for the TransCanada Theatre in Olds on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Olds & District Chamber of Commerce president Mark Johnson is scheduled to moderate Wednesday’s forum.

There are seven candidates vying for the council opening: Darren Wilson, Mitch Thomson, Sundai Cody, Rudy Durieux, Darcy Dobush, Keith Bishop and Jan Thompson.
