OLDS - Olds RCMP is seeking the public's help in identifying two people - a man and a woman - involved in a drive-by shooting on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (QEII) between the Didsbury and Olds overpasses.

The police investigation has determined that at approximately 7 p.m., on Wednesday, May 11 the suspect's and victim's vehicles were driving northbound along the QEII, also known as Highway 2, in the right lane, RCMP Cst. Patrick Lambert said in a press release issued today, May 21.

“The suspect vehicle accelerated to overtake the victim vehicle and pulled along side them in the left lane,” he said.

“While the vehicles were beside each other a firearm was pointed from the suspect vehicle at the victim, multiple rounds were discharged at the victim’s vehicle.”

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries that did not require medical assistance, Lambert told the Albertan, adding that the driver was not hit by the gun fire.

Multiple rounds hit the vehicle's side panel and the driver "felt pressure on his or her arm" from the bullets' impact, he said.

Police are not saying if the driver of the vehicle hit was man or woman, he said.

With the assistance of the RCMP Forensic Identification Services, evidence has been recovered from the victim’s vehicle, he said.

The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as a Caucasian male, mid to late 20s, with a short black beard. He was described as wearing a black baseball cap.

The female passenger in the suspect vehicle is described as having dark hair.

The suspect vehicle is described as a two-door grey/black or dark grey sports car.

“The Olds RCMP are asking for the public's assistance and would like to speak with anyone who was in the area that witnessed this occurrence or have any information that could assist police with this investigation,” he said.

Officers are also asking for dashboard camera footage from motorists who were travelling on the QEII north between Highway 582 and Highway 27 on May 11 between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or any other unsolved crime, is asked to contact Olds RCMP at 403-556-3323.
