OLDS — The Olds Municipal Library’s (OML) first Anonymous Artist Show & Auction was a great success, library manager Lesley Moody says.

The show and auction was held from May 8-13. Participants were given a chance to view and vote for their favourite piece. Final bids were tallied and the winners contacted on May 13.

“We were very pleased with the art auction,” Moody said in an email. “We had 94 participants submit artwork and we made over $1,400 for the library.

“It was nice to see submissions from all ages and artistic ability.”

Moody says although this is the first time the anonymous art show and sale has been held in the OML, the concept has been undertaken in other libraries throughout the world, so staff thought they’d give it a try in Olds.

“We wanted to support the art community while we were raising money for the library,” Moody wrote.

“Overall it was a smashing success and we will definitely be doing it next year.’
