OLDS — Town council has served formal notice to Mountain View County that it may withdraw fire services to the county in two years if the county doesn’t agree to pay more for that assistance.

Mayor Mike Muzychka signed a letter to that effect last week after council passed motion calling on him to do so.

The motion regarding the so-called fire sub agreement came after council held an in-camera (behind closed doors) discussion on the matter during its July 12 meeting.

“Basically we’ve been in negotiations with Mountain View County for quite some time regarding the funding model that we have with them to provide service to the county. We’re not happy with the outcome of those talks,” Muzychka said during an interview.

"We need a two-year window to end our agreement with them. I’m hoping that the county will come back to the table and start renegotiating a little bit further with regards to this item and we don’t have to put this motion into effect going forward.

"We feel that they’re underpaying for the service that we’re providing.”

Muzychka said the town will be able to provide more details on its concerns once Mountain View County officials have received the letter.
