OLDS — Town council has voted to provide a sponsorship of $1,500 to AgSmart, Olds College’s annual outdoor agriculture industry exhibition.

This year’s event takes place Aug. 1-2.

It’s an opportunity for attendees to learn about the latest advances in agriculture from industry reps and scientists via various displays and seminars.

This year’s donation is on par with last year’s, chief administrative officer Brent Williams said.

Coun. Dan Daley noted that a letter requesting the sponsorship also asked if organizers could make use of the town’s community events trailer. He asked if “human resources” would thus have to be “involved.”

Williams said the request for the trailer was turned down because it’s funded via FCSS (Family and Community Support Services) dollars.

"This is not an eligible FCSS program so unfortunately it kind of falls through the cracks, so the trailer use will be declined and the donation will proceed,” Williams said.
