OLDS – An anti-racism rally planned for Olds this Saturday is expected to include numerous speakers, officials said Monday.

Put on by the Ubuntu – Mobilizing Central Alberta, the Peaceful Anti-Racism Protest event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. in Centennial Park, located at 50th Avenue and 54th Street.

Former Olds resident Roseline Eslinger is one of the scheduled speakers.

“Personally, as somebody who is someone of colour and has lived in Olds, I definitely feel as if it (racism) is something specific to Olds,” she said. “We are not immune to the racism that happens.”

The rally is open to everyone and will include social distancing measures, she said.

“This is definitely a family-friendly event,” she said. “It is a peaceful protest.”

An anti-racism rally in Innisfail on June 13 attracted about 500 people.
