During a town hall meeting Aug. 30 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105 in Olds, Nathan Cooper, the MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, apologized for he and his staff being unable to keep up with constituents’ correspondence. He said there’s just been too much.

OLDS — Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA Nathan Cooper has admitted he and his staff haven’t communicated as well with constituents as they would like.

“I’ll tell you right now, there’s a wide range of opinion on whether or not I’ve done a good job,” he said during an approximately one-hour town hall meeting at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105 in Olds. About 20 people attended the event.

“I will certainly accept that and acknowledge that there are things that we did that weren’t as good as they could be, in terms of communication or otherwise.

“And so for that, my apologies to you if you happen to be one of those folks who didn’t have a good communication experience in our office,” Cooper added.

However, he said that’s because, during the past 18 months or so, his office was snowed under with correspondence from constituents.

Cooper said during the past year and a half, every three months, his constituency office received as much correspondence as they used to receive in an entire year.

"We have the same amount of hours in the day. We have the same three people that work in the office, including myself, yet, we have basically, every three months, a year’s worth of work to endeavour to try to get through. And so, we didn’t do that at all times.

“And so we hope to do better. But there’s also only so many hours in a day and so many staff that our constituencies can employ.”
