Suspects fled police after accident

Two Alberta men are facing numerous charges after a boat and trailer were reported stolen from a storage lot in Olds on July 31.

Keith Conway, 42, of Calgary is facing charges of flight from police, driving while disqualified, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and possession of stolen property over $5,000. Conway's co-accused, 39-year-old Eric Miller of Morley is facing charges of flight from police, driving while disqualified, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and resisting arrest.

The charges stem from Olds RCMP receiving a report that a boat was stolen. Olds members tracked the boat, which was being pulled by a brown Dodge Caravan, but the unit didn't stop for police.

Later that evening, at about 9:30 p.m., Olds RCMP again located the unit southbound on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and followed it north of Airdrie. While police again attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped up exiting onto Veterans Boulevard in Airdrie. Police again lost sight of the vehicle as it travelled west.

Airdrie RCMP later located the vehicle (without the boat and trailer) after it crashed into a fence on 8 Street NW and Bayside Boulevard in Airdrie. Both suspects fled on foot. Police pursued and apprehended one of the suspects. The second male went to a nearby residence and asked the occupants to call him a taxi. The occupants, suspicious, called police, who arrested the suspect without incident.

The boat is valued at about $15,000 and was recovered in the Woodside area of Airdrie with minor damage.
