TORRINGTON - Olds RCMP are continuing to investigate an incident on Oct. 16 in Torrington in which a man allegedly threatened to kill his female common-law spouse. He reportedly had a loaded firearm with him at the time.
The suspect was arrested later that day at a business in Olds. As of Friday, he was in custody awaiting charges and a judicial hearing on the matter.
Police say a "distraught female" called them at about 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 16 saying her common-law husband threatened to kill her.
"He had a loaded firearm and was in the residence with her as she was on the line with the police dispatcher," an RCMP news release says. "The call was cut off abruptly as officers from Olds, Didsbury and Three Hills detachments were responding."
While police were en route to the scene, they learned that a male suspect was walking down a street with a firearm. The RCMP Emergency Response Team and an Air Services helicopter were dispatched to assist responding officers.
By the time police arrived, the suspect had driven off in his truck.
"A search for the male resulted in him being located at a business in Olds approximately two hours later.  He was arrested and taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported by the victim," the release says.
