OLDS — For the second year in a row, the Mountain View Seniors’ Housing Foundation has been forced to cancel its annual Powered by the People Gala fundraiser due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The health, safety and well-being of our community, our seniors, our employees and our guests is the foundation’s top priority at this important time,” said executive director April Mattson.

With the cancellation of the 2021 gala, she said the foundation will be exploring new ways to “develop relationships and to raise awareness and funds using social media or with a virtual event during the coming months.

“Last year, we were really focusing on getting a footing in the midst of the pandemic. This year, we are really looking at alternative ways to engage the community and let them know that we are still fundraising and doing what we can to support our charitable foundation.”

The foundation raises funds to provide support for the residents in the four lodges owned and operated by Mountain View Seniors' Housing.

“What we do is fund raise for things that make the lodges feel like home for the residents,” she said.

“That can include furniture that’s required and items like that that they need to make life comfortable.”
