OLDS — Canadian Tire in Olds has donated a trailer to the Mountain View Food Bank for pickups of food and other items around town.

Canadian Tire general manager Mike Tomey presented the trailer to food bank directors and volunteers in front of their facility in Olds on Nov. 15 on behalf of franchise owners Mike and Lesia Asaris.

Warren Smith, a volunteer with the food bank, says until now, the organization has relied on privately-owned trailers to be made available by residents for that job.

However, he said, “they’re not always available,” so this new trailer will be more efficient and convenient for the food bank.

Tomey said originally, food bank officials offered to split the cost of the trailer on a 50/50 basis.

But that all changed when Tomey broached the idea to Mike and Lesia Asaris.

“We decided to go forward and donate the whole trailer,” he said, so that money the food bank would have spent on their half of the cost of the trailer “could go where it needed to go.”
