First reFind fashion show fundraiser a success

Uptown Olds' reFind owner Kristin Allan could congratulate herself on a project well done last Friday night, as 40 community members came to the store's first fundraising fashion show at Bean Brokers.

“For our first go at this, I think it was fantastic,” said Allan.

“I think the crowd really enjoyed it. I know the models had a really good time.”

During the evening, eight loyal store customers doubled as models and showed off the wares sold at reFind.

Cori Ellingson was asked to model by Allan and she did not regret her decision.

“I liked it. I thought it was fun,” said Ellingson.

While the fashion show was in large part a store promotion, Allan also used it as a fundraiser for Gowns 4 Grad, a program that helps high school seniors in need get outfits for the graduation ceremony.

“We are using this evening as really good promotion event for our Gowns 4 Grads project,” she said.

“The proceeds from the fashion show are going into Gowns 4 Grads.”

Town of Olds mayor Judy Dahl could be found in the audience, enjoying the evening.

“We really have to thank Kristin and her team for being able to put on an event such as this, but it does not surprise me, because Kristin is so involved in the community with reFind and fair trade. She is a true volunteer in the community,” said Dahl.

“I am very proud of the community spirit and the people that showed up tonight.”

After the fashion show, Allan was already thinking about doing another one next spring.

“We just felt there has been so much support and love from the community,” she said.

“Overall, the response to this event is way more positive than I ever imagined it would be.”
