The Olds Figure Skating Club will be hosting its fourth annual Movie in the Park on Saturday.

The selection this year, Rio, will be shown at 8:45 p.m. in Centennial Park.

Kathi Chant, fundraising chair for the club, said the movie was decided on by asking skaters and their parents what they would like to see.

“We tried to pick a family movie. This is the first year we've actually gone with one that's already out on DVD. Usually we get a bit of a newer one,” she said, noting that those selections were sparse this year.

Chant said the hope is that the club can do as well as it did with last year's movie, which raised about $5,000. Proceeds of the fundraiser go toward ice fees at the Olds Sports Complex. A total of 600 people turned out for the movie last year.

“We've improved every year. We've always had more people turn out (over the previous year). It's always been a really good word of mouth in the community,” she said.

Rio is a computer-animated 3-D film which tells the story of a male blue macaw (Blu) who is taken to Rio de Janeiro to mate with Jewel, a free-spirited macaw. The film follows their adventures as they try to escape from being smuggled out of Rio by Clement, a cockatoo.

The movie in the park is one of several fundraisers the club does throughout the year. The club's largest fundraiser – a casino – is held once every three years but won't be happening this year. The last casino was held in 2009.

Admission is a suggested donation of $3.
