OLDS — The town of Olds Operation Centre (EOC has been so impressive that provincial officials have congratulated town officials and asked them to share the centre’s demobilization plan with other Alberta communities.

Mayor Michael Muzychka made that announcement during the town’s June 22 council meeting after EOC director Brian Powell gave councillors the latest update on the EOC.

The Olds EOC was set up in mid March when the COVID-19 lockdown began. Powell announced that tentative plans call for the EOC to shut down July 14.

“It’s my understanding that yet again, the Alberta government has reached out to the town of Olds and our EOC with some major kudos,” Muzychka said.

“The Alberta government has asked us to share our demobilization plan with other municipalities across Alberta.

“I know could not be more proud of the work that you have done and it’s clear with the accolades coming out of the Alberta government how well you and your team have performed."

Chief administrative officer Michael Merritt also praised Powell and EOC officials for their efforts.

“His team I think is great. They’ve made my job so much easier to have people that you know are in place that know the business to the nth degree,” Merritt said.
