OLDS — A COVID-19 outbreak at the Mount View Lodge is officially over, according to Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) board chair Heather Ryan.

Ryan an Olds town councillor, made the announcement during council’s Jan. 11 meeting.

During a previous council meeting, Ryan had reported only one case in Mount View Lodge. However, she said shortly after that announcement, she was informed by Sam Smalldon, MVSH chief administrative officer, that five cases had actually occurred in the facility.

Ryan indicated that turned out to be the height of the pandemic in the lodge.

“I just want to report that Jan. 8 we received clearance for the outbreak to be concluded.

“So right at the moment, we have received clearance from the Alberta Communicable Disease Control that the COVID-19 outbreak at the Mountain View Lodge in Olds has been declared over,” Ryan said.

Smalldon told The Albertan that all those who tested positive were residents. No staff tested positive and all those residents who did test positive have since recovered.

“No one (in Mount View Lodge) has passed away from that COVID,” he said.

"Fantastic news that we have no cases at Mount View seniors lodge,” mayor Michael Muzychka said.
