OLDS — RCMP say a collision involving a gravel truck that occurred west of Bowden on Feb. 18 appears to be linked to a suspicious incident earlier that day.

At 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 18, Olds RCMP received a report of a suspicious male in a guest suite in an adult living facility in Olds.

“When the complainant was seen by the suspect, he fled from the building and left in a U-Haul truck,” Staff Sgt. Jim MacDonald, the commanding officer of Olds RCMP, wrote in a March 3 email.

MacDonald said at 9:34 a.m. on Feb. 18, police were called to a collision between a U-Haul and a gravel truck at the intersection of Highway 587 and Rge. Rd. 20.

“It was determined that the driver of the U-Haul was the same person who was located in the adult living facility in Olds. He was in possession of stolen property and is facing charges related to both incidents,” MacDonald wrote.

MacDonald added that because the suspect had been sent to hospital and his identification needed to be confirmed, charges had not yet been laid. For that reason, his name could not be released either.
